LIVERMORE FALLS – The high school academic wing will be getting a new rubber membrane to replace one that was put on decades ago that has been leaking.
The contract for the project was awarded in July to G & E Roofing of Augusta for $111,700, Building and Grounds Director Ken Vining said.
Three bids were received but two of those did not meet the specifications on the type of roofing material required, he said.
New doors at the high school and some electrical work at both the middle and high schools is nearly complete, Superintendent Terry Despres told the school board Thursday.
Some of the money for the projects is coming from state revolving renovation funds.
Despres told directors that regardless of what happens with possible consolidation with Jay, the district needs to prepare for construction of a new school.
The district had been on a track to build a new high and middle school prior to the state’s implementation of a new school reorganization law.
Despres said a new school building in Livermore Falls would benefit the taxpayers by reducing the amount of money spent on repairs and renovation to keep the building safe to having a state-of-the-art school.
In other business Thursday, Despres informed directors about staffing hired during the summer. The board have authorized the superintendent to hire staff during that time.
School starts for students on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
New staff members are: Bruce Houghton, computer technology teacher at the high school; Amanda Gage-Croll, math and science teacher at middle school; Kymberli Bryant and Daniel Fayen, both language arts teachers at high school; Michelle Roberge, literacy intervention coordinator and Angela Frey, education technician III, both at the elementary school.
Two other staff members at that school are also expected to be hired before school starts, Despres said.
