PHILLIPS – Town Manager Lynn White submitted his resignation this week, but said he will stay until there is a replacement.
He began the $40,000-a-year job June 18.
“I’ve enjoyed doing what we’ve been doing. This town is a great town. I’m sorry I have to leave for personal reasons,” White said Friday. “I will do whatever I can as a volunteer.”
The Phillips native guided townspeople through a government shutdown last month after voters decided not to act on spending articles at a town meeting. White volunteered his time at the town office from July 1 to July 12. He also made arrangements for motor vehicle registrations to continue and to keep the transfer station open with the help of the town of Avon. Those moves lessened the impact on residents.
White spent years as an engineer and business manager in the private sector before delving into town management. He collects antique cars, and he and his wife, Mary-Ellen, own and operate Clark & White, Inc., a limousine service.
Advertisements for a manager for the town of nearly 1,000 people have already appeared in local newspapers. The deadline for applications is Aug. 22.
