WILTON – New town police officer Jedediah Malcore was introduced at the selectmen’s meeting Tuesday evening.

The board and Chief Dennis Brown welcomed the East Wilton man, who has completed the 18-week municipal police academy training. His first day was Friday.

Richard Billion, who has been a temporary employee with the police department since December, has also been added to the full-time staff after a recommendation from Brown and approval from selectmen.

Former officer Blaine Radcliff, who has taken a job as a Franklin County emergency dispatcher, will be available to work part time as an officer.

Also at the meeting, Eagle Scout candidate Brian Carlton spoke about the approved repairs to the East Wilton Park across from the post office, including work to rusted structures, adding picnic tables, and installing new lighting on the basketball courts.

“This is a great project,” said Selectman Irving Faunce, who was concerned there was no total budget for the venture.

Carlton said he will seek donations from businesses and community grants. He also said Wal-Mart will match a portion of whatever is raised for the project.

Also Tuesday there was a debate over paving repairs to be done in two sections to Lake Road, from Main Street to Walker Hill Road, and from Walker Hill Road to Route 2. The proposal calls for a portion of the road near Wilson Lake to be designated one way with a walking area along one side.

After much discussion over the budget of $196,000 for the work, it was voted to hold a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 17. Those interested may meet selectmen at Bass Park to walk the sections of road in question and then attend the regularly scheduled 7 p.m. meeting to talk about the need for repairs.
