RANGELEY – A fight between brothers Thursday evening went a bit too far. One’s ear was bitten off and now the other brother faces a charge of aggravated assault.

Edward Warren Jr., 37, of Lisbon was visiting his brother Ellis Warren Sr., 35, of Route 4 in Oquossoc village when a fight broke out between them, said Rangeley police officer Jared Austin, who responded to a call of brothers fighting an an ear bitten off.

The fight had stopped by the time Austin arrived at the small apartment, but the scene was reminiscent of Mike Tyson, he said, recalling the incident when Tyson, the former heavyweight champ, bit Evander Holyfield’s ear during a bout a few years ago.

Apparently one brother bit the other’s finger, and while they were wrestling on the floor, Edward bit the top third of Ellis’ ear, he said. The men apparently decided enough was enough and stopped fighting, he said.

“The top portion of his ear was hanging by a thin piece of skin and was starting to turn black,” Austin added.

Warren was taken by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, and a clinical coordinator said Friday night that he was not a patient there.

Alcohol was involved in the incident, he said. Ellis’ girlfriend and her daughter were at the apartment during the incident as well as Edward’s 4-year-old son, Austin said.
