FARMINGTON – The annual March for Violence Free Communities will be held Saturday, April 26, starting at 9 a.m. at Meetinghouse Park on Main Street.

The march is sponsored by Peace in Our Families along with many supporting organizations, Judy Rawlings of SAVES said Tuesday.

Marchers usually gather around 8:45 a.m. before going from Main Street down to and across Broadway to High Street. They then will march down High Street to South Street and back up Main Street to the Old South Church for a program, she said.

Following a welcome, three speakers will talk about a domestic audit completed a few years ago in Franklin County. The audit was the basis for Jayne Decker’s play, “Cracked Shells,” that was produced last year, she said.

Katie Marble, facilitator of the audit for the Healthy Community Coalition, will discuss what she learned from it. Missy Danforth will speak on how Peace in Our Families assisted with the audit and production of the play.

Decker will tell what it was like for her to write the play and how she used words of survivors in the audit to develop the characters in the play, Rawlings said.

After an awards ceremony, everyone who wishes will have a couple minutes to remember a friend, read a poem or tell about their own experience, she added.

The March for Violence Free Communities addresses concerns of victims of sexual assault/abuse, child abuse as well as victims and survivors of family or domestic abuse, she said. It is an annual event that has been held in Farmington for more than 10 years, she added.
