KINGFIELD – A storm dropped several inches of snow mixed with sleet Tuesday causing some mishaps and traffic delays but no reports of serious injuries.

Two tractor-trailer trucks were turned sideways on slippery Route 16 in Kingfield near the town’s transfer station, Franklin County Deputy Sandy Burke said.

The truck drivers were trying to get each other out but ended up getting stuck and blocking traffic, he said.

A loader was called from Jordan’s Lumber to help move the trucks and a Maine Department of Transportation truck was called in to sand the road, Burke said.

After the road was treated it was opened to see if other trucks could make it up the hill, but they couldn’t, he said.

The DOT’s truck sanded the road heavily before it was reopened, he said.

Traffic was rerouted by firefighters for nearly two hours.

In Jay, a sport utility vehicle went out of control on Route 4 near the former Moose Horn Trading Post, struck a snowbank and rolled onto its roof about 6:30 a.m., Jay police officer Russell Adams said.

Dahlon Campbell, 18, of Jay was heading south on the road returning from work in Phillips when the accident happened, he said.

Campbell was able to climb out of the vehicle. He received a bump on his head, Adams said.

Adams was assisted by firefighters at the scene.

Campbell’s 1990 Nissan Pathfinder was a total loss, Adams added.
