WILTON – Police here have been busy this week, Chief Dennis Brown said Thursday.
Officer Josh King and Detective Richard Caton responded to a call at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Main and High streets area. A female was standing in the road screaming, he said. A female juvenile, known to the woman, had broken into or entered her apartment and assaulted her, he said. Police found the juvenile, after following her on foot, and placed her in protective custody. Charges will be made against the juvenile, he said, but declined to say what they will be.
King responded to a purse snatching at Meadow Lanes Bowling Alley Friday night, he said. A young man was being detained by other bowlers after he reportedly stole $80 cash from a woman’s purse while she went to bowl, he said. The man fled on foot but after conducting interviews, King was able to find out who he was and made an arrest.
Harley Witherell, 24, of Farmington, was arrested on charges of theft by unauthorized taking and violation of conditions of release. The money was not retrieved, Brown said.
Police also responded to a fight around 2 a.m. Saturday on Main Street, he said. After arriving at the scene, King noticed one person bleeding from cuts on his hands. He discovered the victim had been stabbed during the fight. The victim was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital, treated and was released, Brown said.
Michael Cook, 24, of Wilton was arrested by Officer Doug Geis on a felony charge of aggravated assault. Unsecured bail of $3,000 was provided, and he was released for a court appearance on Jan. 28.
