LIVERMORE FALLS – Selectmen will hold a public hearing Monday to get comments on the proposed pedestrian/bicyclist path along the Androscoggin River on Foundry Road.
Ninety percent of the design phase is done, Town Manager Martin Puckett said.
Ex-Town Manager Alan Gove started the project in 2004 and three years later it still ongoing.
The proposed path has been shortened due to rising costs of materials, including paving. Instead of running from Bridge Street on Route 4 behind the bank building to Route 133 near Shuy Corner, it will start behind the police station and go along Foundry Road, close to 4,000 feet from start to finish, Puckett said. It ends near the boat launch site. The path will be 10 feet wide with dual purposes for walking and bicycling.
The town had received a grant for the project with only $28,000 in local match needed. The local money came from rollover funds from a community development block grant, Puckett said, so no local property tax dollars are being used.
The state grant was for $128,000 but the state plans to put more money in because paving prices have increased 35 percent since 2004, Puckett said.
Initially, the grant was going to be a two-phase project but it has been reduced to one phase, he added.
People will get an update on the project during the hearing at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 19, at the Livermore Falls town office.
