JAY -School officials called in police and a drug-detecting dog to scan the vehicles parked in the students’ parking lot Friday that resulted in one student suspended and an employee cited for a civil violation.
The school has been doing routine searches of the parking area in the last two years and will continue them to keep a drug-free school campus, Jay School Superintendent Bob Wall.
Jay police, along with Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy David Rackliffe and his dog, Odin, turned over the investigation to school officials after drug paraphernalia was detected in a student’s vehicle.
Wall said that student was suspended from school for 10 days.
“We did end up finding a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in vehicle of a middle school cafeteria worker,” Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. said.
Autumn Richards, 27, of Dixfield, a fairly new employee, White said, was issued civil summonses for possession of a usable amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Wall said they followed through on the situations discovered by police and have been cooperating with them.
