JAY – A Jay man was arrested for the second time in less than 24 hours Monday night after police searched his 12 Emery St. home and found marijuana plants growing, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Tuesday.
Ryan Bergman, 28, remained at the Franklin County jail in Farmington on Tuesday afternoon waiting to appear before a judge to set bail today at 12th District Court.
Bergman was charged with aggravated cultivation of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school and violation of conditions of release, White said.
On Sunday night, Jay police Sgt. Troy Young arrested Bergman on charges of felony aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs and misdemeanor furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol in connection with two girls under age 15.
Bergman posted $250 cash bail on those charges Monday but was back behind bars that evening.
Doing a random search of Bergman’s residence, as allowed as one of his bail conditions, Young and officer Steve Wilkinson found several marijuana plants 1- to 1-feet tall growing in a greenhouse-type addition to the house and covered by a tarp, White said.
He estimated the marijuana’s street value at $500.
