FARMINGTON – The team of detectives investigating the death of Louise Brochu set up shop at the Franklin County District Courthouse Tuesday but no breaks in the case were reported.
Two State Police box trucks, one belonging to the evidence response team, the other a mobile crime lab, were parked in the courthouse lot.
Brochu’s body was found at her business New England Wood Flooring in New Portland on the morning of June 8 by police after a customer had gone to her business and home on Route 27 and reported her missing. Police are calling her death a homicide.
Police have not identified a suspect and have been guarding the details surrounding her death while they continue the investigation.
The lead investigator, State Police Detective Lt. Gary Wright, said the investigation into Brochu’s death was “active and ongoing.”
While police have not arrested a suspect, that doesn’t mean the case is cold yet, Wright said.
“We look at the cases individually; we don’t consider our cases cold for quite some time. It’s not like in the big cities (where) it may be 24 or 48 hours and they are putting them on a shelf if they don’t have something,” Wright said. “We don’t do that. We work them as hard as we can, continually until at some point we either just run into dead ends or we’ve run out all the leads we have in the case and we are waiting for something else to come up. But I wouldn’t even come close to considering this case a cold case.”
Wright said people in the region should expect to see detectives and police activity in relation to the case as they continue their investigation.
“We are just continuing to work through the investigative process as we do in a lot of these cases,” Wright said.
Any breaks in the case that could be made public would be as soon as possible, Wright said.
Many people have reported information that detectives are looking into, Wright said. He also again encouraged anyone with possible information on the case to call the State Police at 800-452-4664.
