NEW SHARON – A New Sharon man was listed in fair condition at a Lewiston hospital Wednesday after he received a crushing injury to his arm when it was pinned under a tractor’s roll bar for about three hours Tuesday.
James Curtiss, 53, of Lane Road, was hauling some brush to the edge of his yard with a tractor early Tuesday afternoon when the front wheels got too close to the edge of an embankment. His load shifted weight, and Curtiss and the tractor, with a bucket, tumbled down a steep embankment, police said.
The tractor rolled onto its side and became lodged against a tree about 20 feet down the 100-foot embankment. One of Curtiss’ arms was pinned beneath the tractor’s roll bar.
A Starks Road resident heard Curtiss’ continuous calls for help and called police, who were able to follow the calls to find Curtiss.
Curtiss, who had been scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday night, was listed in fair condition in the critical care unit Wednesday at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
