NEW VINEYARD – A group of women from the community are planning and cooking for a benefit supper for Martin and Becky Lane, who lost their home to a fire April 11.

The meal will start at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Smith Hall.

Realizing the couple’s needs, a group of women wanted to do something for them, Donna Holbrook said.

“They’re good people whose family have been longtime members of this town,” she said. “If something like that happened, I would like to think that others would step forward to help.”

The meal will include baked beans, casseroles, salads, pies, yeast rolls and more, she said. If anyone in the community is willing to contribute food to the supper, they are asked to phone one of the following: Barbara Benoit 652-2205, Holbrook 652-2216, Lynn Ricardo 652-2920 or Ann Sullivan at 652-2096. Cynthia Flick, she said, is also helping with the plans.

Takeouts will be available, and if there is good weather, tables will be set up outside Smith Hall so people can eat in or out, Holbrook said.

“New Vineyard is famous for their suppers,” she said. All are welcome. Cost is $5 for adults; $3 for children.
