WILTON – During selectmen’s executive session Tuesday, a motion was made to hire Richard Caton IV as a full-time police officer, Town Manager Peter Nielsen said Wednesday.

Caton is a Wilton resident, he said, and an experienced officer. He currently works for the town of Jay.

If Caton accepts the position, it would fill the second full-time opening out of four in the department. Officer Alfred Cooper started patrol on Sunday, April 29, and was introduced to selectmen Tuesday evening.

Caton has gone through the interview process, including an interview with a board comprised of local residents.
