FARMINGTON – A Farmington woman pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter and operating under the influence Friday in Franklin County Superior Court.

Sarah M. Forbes, 43, is accused of driving with a .16 percent blood alcohol level in February when her vehicle struck a snowmobile on routes 2 and 4 in Farmington. The driver of the sled, Rick Billian, 23, of Strong, and his passenger and fiancee, Lisa Cerqueira, 20, of Wilton, were injured. Cerqueira died several days later from her injuries.

Billian’s sled had successfully crossed the road to get to a trail but one of the machine’s skis got stuck on the road curb and he got off to straighten it out when the accident happened.

Forbes, stood beside her attorney, John Alsop. The latter said he just received a large amount of material on the case, and he asked the court for 60 days instead of the normal 21 to file motions on the case.

Justice Joseph Jabar granted that request.

When Jabar asked about bail, Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said he did not agree with the bail earlier but had no reason to change it.

Forbes was released from jail after a court appearance in February on $10,000 unsecured bail.
