FARMINGTON – Forty pieces of telecom equipment arrived at the Franklin County Sheriff’s dispatch office Thursday.
The 911 equipment, estimated by movers to weigh about 1,100 pounds, will enhance the system with the ability to receive cell phone calls and a GPS system that can identify where the call is coming from, said a Verizon technician. If someone is unable to speak, he said, the system can produce the address from where the call originates.
The equipment, from Temecula, Calif., was delivered by Down Home Delivery workers Steve Cook and Mark Meserve, who said they have made similar deliveries to several towns in Maine.
Verizon technicians will set up the equipment and provide training over the next three weeks.
A small addition was built on to the back of the office this spring to store the new equipment.
