FARMINGTON – Fire destroyed a mobile home at 139 Philbrick Road in Farmington Falls Monday.

A passerby noticed smoke coming from the windows of the home and called 911.

Verne Pressey occupied the home owned by Chris Bunnell.

“No one was home at the time,” said fire Chief Terry Bell, who added, “the home was a total loss.”

Other occupants of the home were not known, Bell said.

“The cause of the fire,” Bell said, “was believed to be an extension cord plugged into an electric heater.”

Some contents may be saved but he estimated the loss to be $4,000.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke pouring from the windows of the home located on the corner of Philbrick Road and Route 2, just south of Philbrick Park.

Assisting Farmington Fire Department at the scene were firefighters from Chesterville and New Sharon. Wilton’s Fire Department sent firefighters on standby to the Farmington department. Jay and Temple departments were called for help but then canceled.

Northstar Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene.
