LIVERMORE – Selectpersons received notice Monday that the town’s share for NorthStar Emergency Medical Services will increase for the year beginning July 2007.
Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub told the Board of Selectpersons Monday night that the amount Livermore would pay for 2007 is $28,340.
“That’s a 20 percent increase from this year,” Schaub said. “For the current year we paid $23,617.”
The figures, which come from a new formula created by the NorthStar Advisory Board, are based on the proposed 2007 state valuation submitted by the property tax division of the Maine Revenue Service for Androscoggin County. The numbers take into consideration population, distance, and seasonality, among other things.
“I have to say its a fair formula,” Schaub said.
April 1 is the deadline to either accept or decline the town’s participation. When questioned by the board why some towns with about the same state valuation seem to be paying less than Livermore, Schaub said that the executive director for NorthStar, Dave Robie, would be available to meet with them to discuss the figures. Schaub said he was not on the Advisory Board when the formula was created.
In other business, Town Clerk Renda Libby thanked the board for its assistance on election night, which included setting up voting booths and taking them down later.
“There were 1,038 voters, with 205 absentee votes,” Libby said. “People did really well. We counted the votes twice and we were here until 12:30 on election night.”
Libby also reminded the board that dog licenses are due on Dec. 31.
Highway Foreman Moe Laverdiere told the board that the town’s winter sand is ready and the roads are in “fairly good shape,” he said.
Laverdiere has obtained some patch material for potholes. “Its a very different mix and very difficult to shovel,” he said.
“We have no way to heat it up.” Heating up the patch material would make it easier to handle. Laverdiere also advised that the new truck arrived and is equipped and ready to go.
The town office will be closed Thursday and Friday in observation of Thanksgiving. The board will meet again at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 at the Town Office, and the Planning Board will meet at 3 p.m. on Dec. 5 for two site visits, assembling at the Town Office.
