JAY – Three people were injured Tuesday morning when a pickup truck and car collided at Bean’s Corner at routes 133 and 156.
Verlan Perkins, 69, of Jay was westbound on Route 156 in a truck, heading from Chesterville toward Wilton, and failed to yield the right of way to a car driven by Darlene Annance, 45, of Wilton, who was southbound on Route 133 heading toward Livermore Falls, Jay police officer Troy Young said.
Annance attempted to avoid the crash, he said, but there was nothing she could do.
Young said it appears Perkins stopped at the stop sign and didn’t see anything coming and continued across Route 156 to Depot Street in Jay, also known as Route 156, where he lives, when the accident occurred.
Annance was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington by ambulance, Young said.
Her passenger, Jennifer White, 30, whose address was unknown, was taken by a personal vehicle to the Farmington hospital, he said, after complaining of pain.
Both women were treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday.
Perkins was treated by ambulance personnel at the scene for an injury to his left forearm, Young said.
The 2003 Dodge Stratus that Annance was driving and is registered to Alternative Services in Farmington, and the 1978 Ford truck Perkins was driving were totaled, Young said.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandy Burke kept traffic moving around vehicles and Jay firefighters worked on a gas leak and also helped direct traffic.
The accident remains under investigation, Young said.
