RANGELEY – Voters unanimously approved Town Manager Perry Ellsworth’s request to spend an additional $135,000 to refurbish sewage pumping station No. 1 Tuesday night at a special town meeting.

Ellsworth and the Board of Selectman called for Tuesday’s meeting after learning that construction bids came in significantly higher than the $550,000 originally budgeted for the project.

In all, 31 people, including selectmen, attended Tuesday night’s meeting. According to Ellsworth, the pumping station reconstruction project will be a much-needed boon to Rangeley residents, who have endured sewage backups from the faulty station for years.
