FAYETTE – Residents will gather for their annual town meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday in Fayette Central School to vote on a $2.6 million town budget, $1.3 million of which would be raised from taxes.

The 2005-2006 budget, which would take effect July 1, represents a 5 percent reduction from last year’s budget. The school budget proposal shows an increase of about $82,000, about 5 percent, to a total $1,676,392.81, but revenue for education is expected to increase to more than $714,000, or 6 percent.

The municipal budget proposal, at $820,604.30, shows an increase of about $26,000 from last year, and the county budget proposal of $109,989.63 has an increase of just under $5,000.

Town Manager Mark Robinson expects a couple of the articles to elicit discussion at the town meeting.

In Article 6, the school board asks voters to spend $2,000 for guidance services but selectmen unanimously are recommending no allotment. The school board is also asking voters to approve $73,964 for the school superintendent and $35,973 for the principal, while selectmen suggest $66,964 and $30,973, respectively.

Robinson said in an e-mail Thursday that general government funding for the town “has been a target historically,” so he is expecting “the same for this year.”
