FARMINGTON – Shane Lane, 31, of Strong pleaded guilty in Franklin County Superior Court on Friday to unlawful sexual contact of a 14-year-old girl and assault on her friend. Lane was initially indicted on five counts of unlawful assault and one of assault earlier this year.
The state is recommending seven years’ imprisonment, with all but 2 years suspended, and six years’ probation in a plea agreement, Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson told the court. Sentencing is scheduled for Thursday, May 12.
Lane stood beside his attorney, David Sanders, and answered Justice Joseph Jabar’s questions.
Andrews said the matter was disclosed last December to a school counselor, who reported it to authorities as required by law.
If the case went to court, Robinson said, there would have been graphic testimony.
Sanders said the court should know that Lane has been in intense sexual-abuse counseling since January.
Jabar added to existing bail conditions that Lane continue that counseling.
