FARMINGTON FRANKLIN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WILL HOST THE NEW ENGLAND MIND-BODY MEDICINE CONFERENCE FROM 8 A.M. TO 5 P.M. FRIDAY, APRIL 29, IN THE BEN FRANKLIN CENTER.
THE CONFERENCE WILL EXPLORE A VARIETY OF MIND-BODY APPLICATIONS AND IS DESIGNED FOR PHYSICIANS, PSYCHOLOGISTS, SOCIAL WORKERS, NURSES OR ANYONE WHO WISHES TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE MIND-BODY CONNECTION.
THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER IS ROBERT ALLAN, PHD, WHO WILL DISCUSS CARDIAC PSYCHOLOGY AND BEHAVIORAL CARDIOLOGY. HIS BOOK, HEART AND MIND: THE PRACTICE OF CARDIAC PSYCHOLOGY, WAS PUBLISHED IN 1996 AND WAS FOLLOWED BY A VIDEOTAPE SERIES TITLED CARDIAC PSYCHOLOGY. HE IS UNDER CONTRACT WITH MCGRAW HILL FOR HIS NEWEST BOOK, ANGRY PARENTS, ANGRY CHILDREN: BREAKING THE CYCLE.
OTHER TOPICS WILL INCLUDE ANGER MANAGEMENT, MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE, MANAGEMENT OF CHEMOTHERAPY-ASSOCIATED COGNITIVE CHANGE IN ADULT CANCER SURVIVORS, BIOFEEDBACK IN PAIN MANAGEMENT, TREATMENT OF CHRONIC BENIGN HEADACHES, NEUROSCIENCE OF PLACEBOS AND SPIRITUALITY IN ALLOPATHIC MEDICINE.
THIS CONFERENCE WILL FEATURE A VERY DISTINGUISHED PANEL ADDRESSING NO FEWER THAN EIGHT DIFFERENT AND VERY INTERESTING TOPICS IN THIS EMERGING FIELD, SAID JEFFREY LEONARDS, PHD, OF EVERGREEN BEHAVIORAL SERVICES AND THE CONFERENCE CHAIRMAN.

FARMINGTON – Franklin Memorial Hospital will host the New England Mind-Body Medicine Conference from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the Ben Franklin Center.
The conference will explore a variety of mind-body applications and is designed for physicians, psychologists, social workers, nurses or anyone who wishes to learn more about the mind-body connection.
The keynote speaker is Robert Allan, PhD, who will discuss cardiac psychology and behavioral cardiology. His book, “Heart and Mind: The Practice of Cardiac Psychology,” was published in 1996 and was followed by a videotape series titled “Cardiac Psychology. He is under contract with McGraw Hill for his newest book, “Angry Parents, Angry Children: Breaking the Cycle.”
Other topics will include anger management, medical acupuncture, management of chemotherapy-associated cognitive change in adult cancer survivors, biofeedback in pain management, treatment of chronic benign headaches, neuroscience of placebos and spirituality in allopathic medicine.
“This conference will feature a very distinguished panel addressing no fewer than eight different and very interesting topics in this emerging field,” said Jeffrey Leonards, PhD, of Evergreen Behavioral Services and the conference chairman.
“In selecting speakers, we tried to obtain experts who could each represent an important aspect of mind-body medicine, and more particularly one that directly interfaces with the clinical practice of conventional allopathic medicine.”
“Our goal has been to promote a forum here in rural Maine that will cultivate greater dialogue and understanding between the medical and mental health community,” Leonards added.
