JAY – The Jay School Committee has extended the third quarter from April 1 to April 8 to give students more time to achieve fulfill academic objectives, Vice Chairwoman Mary Redmund-Luce said.
Middle School Principal Scott Albert requested the extension because students have missed school because of snow days, she said.
The board also approved allowing seventh-graders to take home laptops for the remainder of the 2004-05 school year for a trial period, she said.
School Committee members approved eighth-graders’ taking home laptops last year, and the program was successful, she said.
Before students were allowed to take the laptops home, parents or guardians had to attend a session to learn about the laptops and the responsibilities that come with them.
The School Committee has also agreed to hold its next three monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month, rather than the first Thursday, because of a scheduling conflict, Redmund-Luce said.
