Eleanor Y. Martin
1926 – 2009
RUMFORD — Eleanor Y. Martin, 83, of the River Road in Mexico, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Rumford Hospital.
She was born in Rumford, Jan. 13, 1926, a daughter of Camille and Nora (Richard) Blanchard.
She married Rudolph J. Martin in 1946; together they celebrated 63 years of marriage and raised seven children.
She was an artist and painted on toadstools, canvas, moose antlers, or whatever the request was.
She was also a teacher of art and had a four page article in full color about her toadstool artistry in the Maine Yankee Magazine.
She was an avid gardener, loved to fish, and just enjoyed life. She was a communicant of the former St. Theresa’s, her patron saint.
The family will remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
Surviving are her husband, Rudolph J. Martin of Mexico; seven children, Stephen R. Martin and wife, Angela, of Litchfield, Roland J. Martin and wife, Shannon, of Jacksonville, Fla., Janice M. Martin of Mexico, Carol M. Martin of Lisbon Falls, Cynthia J. Gibson and husband, James, of Mercer, Sharon A. Martin of Mercer and Marianne R. Cyr and husband, Arthur, of Rumford; three sisters, Yvette Martin and partner, Lee Adams, of Rumford, Clara Armstrong of Bristol, Conn., and Edna McKinnon and husband, Paul, of South Paris; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was predeceased by her parents; and a sister, Rita Porter.
