That a burglar is operating in Auburn appears to be evident for following on the daring break at Edward A. Sherman’s Friday night or Saturday morning, another robbery took place at the home of Forest Berry, 290 Main St., early Sunday morning. As far as can be ascertained only $13 and Mr. Berry’s pocket-book were stolen. Only a glimpse of the burglar was obtained.
50 years ago, 1959
Auburn Police Sgt. Frank Keene last night toured the city, visited several business places displaying rotating colored lights and issued oral warnings on their use.
A new state statute, which became effective Sept. 12, bans the use of any rotating or revolving light which imitates or simulates the lights used on emergency vehicles.
Several of the lights have been in use in the city since prior to the passage of the law, which makes no reference to the color of the lights.
25 years ago, 1984
The way was cleared Wednesday for the city of Lewiston to sign a contract with a private waste collection firm, as union officials signed an agreement outlining the fate of nine Public Works Department employees.
City Administrator Lucien B. Gosselin said he received a signed copy of an agreement struck by the city with Local 1458, Council 74, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
Gosselin said the city will now sign an agreement with SCA Waste Disposal Services of Massachusetts.
