Cancer awareness
LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus and the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will hold a “Breaking the Silence on Ovarian Center” event from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29,
at the SeniorsPlus Education Center, 8 Falcon Rd. The event is free.
Ronie Blaisdell, regional manager from the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition will discuss the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Participants will also get “Teal Toes,” an opportunity to have nails done in teal, the color designated for ovarian cancer awareness. Other giveaways will be provided.

Zumba event
LEWISTON — Zumba Maine Instructors Cynthia Nicholas, Dinah
Aldrich, Nina Alves and Antonio Garreton will host a two-hour Zumba class from
1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Lewiston Memorial Armory, Central Avenue. All donations will benefit the Dempsey Challenge.
All are welcome to attend the event, even those who have never stepped into a Zumba class
before. Zumba is a fun, effective workout that uses dance/exercise moves
with Latin influenced rhythms and music.

Candlelight vigil
LEWISTON — The Abused Women’s
Advocacy Project will host a candlelight vigil to honor those who have lost their lives to domestic violence,
offer hope to those still facing abuse and support those who have
survived domestic violence, at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Raymond Park.
Speakers will include
Auburn Police Chief Phil Crowell Jr. and Lewiston Police Chief
Michael Bussiere. Symbolic purple lighting
will remain in the park for the rest of October, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. All are welcome. For more

Wine dinner
LEWISTON — Trinity Catholic School and St. Dominic Regional High School held
their first annual Wine Dinner on Sept. 17, at Fishbones
Restaurant. There were 60 attendees at the five-course
meal and wine tasting. The night ended with a presentation to
Superintendent Sister Rosemary Donohue, Principal Paul Yarnevich and
Principal Don Fournier of a $1000 scholarship to be awarded to a
Trinity eighth grader as they step up to St. Dominic Regional High School
in the 2010-11 school year.
Plans for next year’s dinner is already underway.
