LEEDS — Leeds Community Church will host a night of comedy and music, featuring comedienne Mary Irace and the Maine Highland Fiddlers, beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26.
Irace, who is based in Portland, will perform and serve as master of ceremonies for the event, which will also include a mix of music acts from the local area and some modeling of fashions from the LCC Deacons’ Clothing Center.
Comedy is in Irace’s blood. Her dad and sister were both television comedy writers. She has been doing stand-up comedy at colleges, comedy clubs and benefits all over Maine and New England for years. She draws her material mostly from her quirky family experiences and numerous careers.
Maine Highland Fiddlers are part of the traditional Celtic music revival that thrives throughout the north Atlantic rim. The band includes fiddles, guitars, keyboard, concertina, cello, bodhran and occasionally some step dancing. Its dance tunes recapture the kitchen party atmosphere that is central to the Celtic culture.
Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Tickets may be purchased at Littleborough Country Store or by calling 524-7151 or 524-5212. Ticket price includes a free slice of pie and a beverage at intermission. All proceeds will benefit the LCC Heating System Fund.
