LEWISTON — On Saturday, Sept. 26, Museum L-A will participate in the fifth annual Museum Day presented by Smithsonian magazine. A celebration of culture, learning and the dissemination of knowledge, Smithsonian’s Museum Day reflects the spirit of the magazine, and emulates the free-admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington, D.C.-based properties.

Doors will be open free of charge to Smithsonian magazine readers and Smithsonian.com visitors at museums and cultural institutions nationwide.

“Museum Day throws open the doors to culture and history and shouts, ‘Welcome, come on in,'” said Rachel Desgrosseilliers, Museum L-A’s executive director. “Museum L-A is pleased to be part of an event that makes our common heritage accessible to more people.”

Special passes must be presented to receive free admission. Smithsonian magazine subscribers receive them as part of their subscription. Nonsubscribers can print their own by going to the Smithsonian’s Web site, www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/.

Museum L-A’s newest exhibit, “Portraits & Voices: Brickyard Roads,” tells the story of the local brickmaking industry with first-person oral histories; documentary photographs; films showing the process, past and present; and specially commissioned artwork. The museum is at 35 Canal St. in the Bates Mill Complex at Canal and Chestnut streets. For more information, call 333-3881.
