AUGUSTA — Maine’s first comprehensive wind conference is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Augusta Civic Center.

The Maine Wind Energy Conference will feature opening remarks from Gov. John Baldacci, who will have just returned from a trade mission tour of European wind companies and will offer his views on growing wind energy in Maine.

He will be followed by presentations and an afternoon set of five breakout sessions for municipal officials, schools and science teachers, developers, entrepreneurs, farmers, small businesses, manufacturers, vendors and innovators.

The conference will feature a full day of updates, information, previews of forthcoming programs and events, and exhibitors. More than 35 speakers will speak on various wind-related topics.

The conference is sponsored by the Wind Powering America Program, Maine Public Utilities Commission and USDA Rural Development, among others.
