A citizen petition opposing early school adjournment on Wednesday afternoons is among the agenda items for Wednesday’s meeting of the Auburn School Committee.
Some parents are complaining that the early release poses child-care problems, Superintendent of Schools Roy D. Loux explained. Students have been released early from school on Wednesdays since 1971, Loux said, to allow time for parent-teacher conferences, staff development and teacher planning.
When the schedule was implemented 13 years ago, the remaining four days of the week were lengthened so that students would be in class the required amount of hours.
