FARMINGTON — Michelle Abbott, RN, was the recipient of a Special Merit Award for her outstanding contributions to Maine emergency nurses. The award was presented to Abbott during the fall meeting of the Maine Chapter of the Emergency Nurses Association.

The award is given annually for exemplary long-term service, or contributions to emergency care or innovations that improve emergency nursing in Maine.

Abbott was nominated for the award by colleague Suzanne Mosher, RN, BSN, CEN, who cited Abbott for developing a triage course, “What is your Emergency?,” which last year was approved through the Maine State Nurses Association for continuing education units. Abbott now presents the in-service training throughout New England. 

“Michelle is a nurse and patient advocate who excels at bedside nursing. As an educator she includes pearls of triage and shares her wisdom from years of experience,” said Mosher. “Michelle has a story for everything, which sticks with you and gives a great reference to remember. Wherever Michelle is working, whether it is on a travel assignment, emergency department or intensive care she is always teaching through her stories.” 

Abbott has 28 years of experience in nursing. She started at Franklin Memorial Hospital in 1981 immediately after completing nursing school. 

“Michelle is an outstanding nurse who can work in multiple nursing units. She is always positive and an excellent role model and mentor for all nurses,” said Pam Ernest, chief nursing officer. “She has a love for teaching and makes it easy and fun to learn. We are very fortunate to have Michelle at Franklin Memorial Hospital.”
