LEWISTON — The David Munnelly Band will bring its exuberant style and high-energy, ragtime-inspired traditional Irish music to the Franco-American Heritage Center on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Featured around the world on BBC World Television’s “Destination Music” program and on a PBS special, the band will also play Monday, Oct. 5, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in Carthage and Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Lakeside Theater in Rangeley.

Praised as the most exciting young button accordionist to have emerged from Ireland in generations, Munnelly, from age 21 to 25, was accordion player for The Chieftains. He also toured and performed with De Danaan and other legendary Irish artists before forming his own band in 2002.

Munnelly composed and recorded the original soundtrack for the TG4 Irish television special “Solas san Dorchadasm,” for which he received the 2004 Composer of the Year Award. He was also honored with the 2005 Composer of the Year Award and named Best Traditional Artist 2005 by LiveIreland.com and the Irish American News. In 2006, his band received the Concert of the Year award from the Irish American News.

The David Munnelly Band has headlined numerous festivals across the United States and in Europe. It headlined Ireland’s prestigious Ballyshannon Festival in 2006 and 2008, and has performed at Belgium’s Dranouter Festival, the largest in Europe; Denmark’s Skagen Festival; the Israel Irish Festival and Scotland’s Celtic Connections.

The band released a new album, “Tight Squeez!,” in July.

All three concerts, presented by New England Celtic Arts, begin at 7 p.m. Tickets at the Franco center and Skye are $10, $5 for children 12. They are available by calling 689-2000, going online to francoamericanheritage.org or at the door; and by calling Skye at 562-4445. At Lakeside Theater, tickets are $10 in advance, $12.50 at the door. These may be purchased at the theater, online at rangeleymovies.com or by calling 864-5000.

There will be a preshow jam at 6:15 p.m. at the Franco center and at Skye. Audience members are encouraged to bring their instruments and jam for a few minutes with the artists. Tickets for jammers 18 and under are $5.
