100 years ago, 1909

Captain Ricker and Engineer Stone of the launch Alice at Lake Auburn have appeared in natty caps with the name of their speedy craft written in gold across the front. Not to be behind the times, Captain Henry Rivers of the launch Home-Run purchased a cap also, but his friends say that his head has shrunk since the purchase, for the hat comes well down over his ears.

50 years ago, 1959

The Androscoggin County Sheriffs Department yesterday was investigating the report of an indecent exposure incident at the Lower Range Pond beach.

The complainant, a woman bather, first called Auburn police and told them that a man who was there last year was back again this summer. He was wearing a cloth over his head, and that was all.

Deputy Sheriffs Leonard Gagne and Everett Williams went to the scene to investigate and interview the complainant and her female companion. The man was standing near a wooded section about 100 yards from the two women. The incident occurred yesterday noon.

25 years ago, 1984

The Franco-American Festival and Le Centre d’Heritage will officially pay homage Wednesday to the late Adelard Janelle, a leader in the Lewiston-Auburn French community.

Janelle, a founding trustee of the center, was a lifelong Lewiston resident and began his involvement in Franco-American activities as a young member of L’Association St. Dominique, of which his father was a founding president.
