LEWISTON — The Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon program series at USM/Lewiston-Auburn on Friday, Oct. 16, will feature a presentation on the nationally recognized McLaughlin Garden of South Paris. The garden was established by Bernard McLaughlin and is preserved by the McLaughlin Foundation which provides an extensive public program of year-round horticulture education and special events.

Michael Desplaines, executive director, received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1992, majoring in horticulture and fine arts. Prior to the 2005 appointment to his position at the McLaughlin Garden, he had served in leadership and management roles at several nonprofits in New England.

Senior College, now in its 11th year, presents the monthly noon luncheon program in the Function Room 170 at USM LAC. The cost, which includes lunch, is $7 with advance reservation or $8 at the door, opening at 11:30 a.m. Reservations must be made no later than noon Thursday, Oct. 15, by phone at 753-6510. Any late callers will be considered as “at the door.”
