COLEBROOK, N.H. – Emery Alton Cameron Sr., 84, of Magalloway Plantation, passed away Thursday, April 2, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital.

He was born Jan. 3, 1925, in Magalloway Plantation, a son of the late Ewen and Evelyn (Menchen) Cameron.

A lifelong resident of Magalloway Plantation, he worked in the woods as a young man and later owned his own logging truck. In the early 1960s, he established his own general contracting business and operated the business until the late 1990s, when his son, Terry, took it over.

A true outdoor enthusiast, he was an avid sportsman who loved to snowmobile, hunt and trap while respecting the land which he enjoyed so much. He served as a licensed Maine guide and as an NRA instructor. He also was a member and lobbyist for the Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsman’s Alliance.

More recently, he enjoyed watching and feeding deer at his home. His love for his friends and family was evident to those who spent time with him. He will be remembered as a family man who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by a son, Terry Cameron and wife, Debra, of Magalloway Plantation; his daughter, Darlene Kenney of Colebrook, N.H.; a sister, Jean Howard and husband, Dean, of Magalloway Plantation; five grandchildren, Alan Kenney, Diane Beaton, Chandra Cameron, Amanda Cameron and Ewen Cameron; seven great-grandchildren, Riannon, Trevor, Mackenzie, Morgan, Madison, Zachary and Tyler; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lorraine G. (Lizotte) Cameron on Sept. 3, 2005; his son, Emery Alton Cameron Jr. on Feb. 15, 2006; his son-in-law, Earl “Skip” Kenney on March 30; his stepmother, Helen (Matheson) Cameron; three brothers, Frank, Eric and Donald Cameron; and two sisters, Elizabeth Vaughn and Virginia Lane.
