RUMFORD – Elwin B. “Pee-Wee” Packard Jr., 81, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at the Rumford Hospital. He was a resident of Pearl Street in Mexico.
He was born in Rumford, on May 23, 1927, a son of the late Elwin and Ezma (Virgin) Packard Sr. He was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1945.
He served in the U.S. Army as a private first class during World War II from 1945 to 1948. He worked for the Times Square Garage in Rumford and then for Boise Cascade Paper Mill, until his retirement in 1989 as a dye maker.
Survivors include a son, Claflin Packard and his wife, Lisa, of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Ellen Taylor and her companion, Randall Probert, of Mexico and Bel Packard and her companion, Larry Snowman, of Dixfield; a sister, Gloria Holt and husband, Robert, of Dixfield and their children, Prudy Garbotz of Mexico, Patty Holt of South Portland and Byrne Holt of Dixfield; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and the mother of his children, Barbara Bernard.
He was predeceased by a son, Martin Packard.
