TOGUS – Lester H. Baker, 89, died at VAMROC, Togus on Dec. 24.
He was born at Hanson, Mass., on April 8, 1919, and was educated in Hanson schools. He served his country in the U.S. Army from April 1942 thru February 1947, having served in New Guinea, Philippines and Japan. He married Carol Smith on Dec. 19, 1953, and they just celebrated their 55th anniversary.
He worked as a Mason most of his life and worked until his 77th birthday. He was an avid Red Sox fan and had coached many levels of baseball teams in the Harrison area. He loved working with the children in Harrison, but his family was his life.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Togus; three sons, H. Dale Baker of Oxford, Robert Baker of Harrison and Lester Baker Jr. of Pittsfield, N.H.; two daughters, Sheila Smith of Harrison and Denise Baker of Oxford; and 11 grandchildren.
The family will always remember the compassionate care Lester received at Togus VA Medical Center along with the dialysis unit.
