LISBON FALLS – Ray F. Sterling, 76, of Main Street, Lisbon Falls, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, Dec. 14. His life was devoted to his service to God, his family, his friends, his country and those organizations that share these values and love.

He was born in South Paris, on Feb. 19, 1932. He married the love of his life, the former Phyllis Beane, on June 29, 1957, in Westbrook. They were blessed with two children and three grandchildren.

He was an active member of Ancient York Lodge of Free and Accepted Mason 155 of Lisbon Falls, where he served as the master of the Lodge in 2005. Joining in 1981, he received his 25-year pin in 2006. He also was a 25-year member of Scottish and York Rites as well as a Kora Shriner of Lewiston.

Known for his wonderful voice, he was an active member of the Kora Chanters, serving in various leadership roles including as the former president. At the time of his passing, he served as the business manager and vice-president. He also took great pride and enjoyed sharing stories with family and friends about being raised on The Opportunity Farm for boys in New Gloucester.

He also served his country with more than 47 years as a senior civilian technician with various military organizations. He was primarily known for his work with the 619th Transportation Co. and the 1125th Medical Unit. He was well-known and deeply respected throughout the entire 94th Arcom. His devotion to the men and woman of those units will never be forgotten. He exemplified the true love of God, country and unit. He will never be forgotten.

As a gifted chef, he could often be found in the heat of a kitchen preparing to spread his love to others in the form of food. He was a staple for many years at the Scout’s pancake breakfast, the Masonic Lodge public meals and the United Methodist Church’s breakfasts.

He loved to swim and took great pride in teaching his grandchildren to swim. He also enjoyed golfing, having lunch with his friends, working on home projects, barbecuing, and getting together with the “Gang.” His family knew how much he loves Christmas and how he looked forward to spending it with them. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and they will miss the rides on his tractor.

He leaves his loving wife of 51 years, Phyllis, of Lisbon Falls; a son, Jayson Sterling of Auburn; a daughter, Karen Ferland and her husband, John, of Auburn; and his grandchildren, Derek Michael Caron, Madeleine Mae Sterling and Spencer Ray Ferland.
