WATERFORD – Jeannette M. Rioux, 87, of Lewiston, passed away Monday, Nov. 24, with family by her side.
She was born in Lewiston, Sept. 25, 1921, daughter of Jean Baptiste and Lena Meservier Garneau.
She was a homemaker, a wife, a grandmother and great-grandmother. On May 18, 1940, she married Antonio J. Rioux, of Lewiston, who predeceased her on Dec. 26, 2001. She worked for the Western Area on Aging as a cook until her retirement. She lived with Parkinson’s disease not long after her retirement.
She loved raising her 10 children and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up and also enjoyed taking them to their camp on Little Bear Pond. She had many memories of taking care of her nieces and nephews and many other children. She was actively involved in her younger years with volunteer work at Holy Family Church and School. She taught CCD for many years and was a member of the Ladies of St. Ann.
She leaves five sons, Antonio and wife, Ginette, of Lewiston, Denis and wife, Susan, of Turner, George and wife, Carol, of Hampton, N.H., Marc and wife, Raymonde, of New Gloucester and Joel and wife, Patricia, of Saco; four daughters, Monique Murch and husband, James, of Waterford, Rachael Michaud and husband, Ronald, of Lewiston, Lysanne Doucette and husband, Daniel, of Lewiston and Cynthia Rioux of Concord, N.H.; as well as 30 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Gabrielle Rioux; grandson, Gerard Rioux; great- grandson, Parker A. Doucette; and sisters, Germaine Garneau Deschaines, Simonne Garneau Dubreuil.
The family would like to thank the staff that cared for our mother from Sarah Frye Home. They truly made her feel like she was home and to the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their daily visits to see our mother.
