SCARBOROUGH – Theresa S. LaChapelle, 80, formerly of 300 East Bridge St., Westbrook, died Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
She was born in Lewiston, on April 12, 1928, a daughter of the late Theophile and Catherine (Lajoie) Lavertu. She worked for many years at Supreme Slipper as a stitcher.
She was a lifetime member of the Ladies of St. Anne at Holy Family Parish in Lewiston and St. Anthony’s Parish in Westbrook. She enjoyed line dancing, painting, playing bingo, making crafts and taking trips with her many friends from Millbrook Estates, where she lived for the past 17 years.
In her later years, she took great pride in volunteering at Pride’s Corner School as a grammie for the Foster Grand Parent program of PROP. She was a wonderful “Grammie” to many children and Memere to her own grand and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Normand and wife, Lorraine, of Scarborough; two granddaughters, Michelle Sirois and husband, Steve, of Scarborough and Christine Landry and husband, Rich, of Berlin, N.H.; and four great-grandchildren, Ben and Maddie Sirois and Matthew and Brayden Landry.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roland A. LaChapelle in 1991; sisters, Rosalie Gilbert, Betty Arneault and Irene Bergeron; and brothers, Albert, Roger, Larry and Paul Lavertu.
