PORTLAND – Andrew Pinero, 59, of Watkins Shores, Casco, died Monday, Nov. 10, in the beautiful Gibson Pavilion at Maine Medical Center surrounded by loved ones and caring medical staff.

He was born June 11, 1949. He attended St. Albans College, Buenos Aires. In addition to his native English, he was fluent in Spanish. As a marine engineer and millwright, he worked in the UK, South America and the Middle East. Arriving in Maine, he was initially employed at Clean Harbors, then moved to IP in Jay, where he worked for 20 years.

A keen and frequent traveler with an inquisitive mind, he had an extensive knowledge of automotive design, world geography and history, politics and current events that he always enjoyed discussing.

An engineering buff, he loved steam engine trains, airplanes and traveling on subways. He collected and restored classic European cars and motorcycles and had designed several prototype model airplane engines.

In the summer, he always looked forward to a daily swim in Thomas Pond near his home. His friends and family, co-workers and acquaintances best remember him as a kind, courteous, and generous man who always offered to help others. In all senses of the word, he was a true gentleman.

He is survived by his loving partner, Sarah Whitney; mother, Christine Roberts; siblings, Malcolm Pinero and Sandra Pinero Flight; brother-in-law, Ronnie Flight; nieces, Micky and Melissa, Eddie Batollo; grandnephew, Luca; and many friends.
