SOUTH PARIS – John Alden MacDougall, 79, of North Road in Bethel, died Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.

He was born in Rumford, on Dec. 1, 1928, a son of Dr. James and Viola (Hayden) MacDougall. He was a graduate of St. Dunson School in Prince Edward Island. He was also a graduate of Massachusetts School of Mortuary Science and also Coyne Electrical School in Massachusetts.

He served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1954, first as a medic and later he transferred to graves registration. He received a Bronze Star for meritorious service.

He was employed for more than 20 years with the Rumford Post Office. He was a member of the American Legion Post 24. He enjoyed fishing and many family trips to Rangeley.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara L. (Keenan) MacDougall; a daughter, Lea A. MacDougall of Winthrop; a son, James R. MacDougall and wife, Diane, of Winthrop; a brother, Hayden MacDougall and wife, Lucy, of Haverhill, Mass.; a granddaughter, Tori MacDougall; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and three brothers, Roderick, Gordon and Douglas.
