HARPSWELL – Janet Elaine Ramos, 79, of Harpswell, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, at her residence with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Madison, on Sept. 16, 1929, a daughter of Clifton S. and Hazel Will Humphreys. She graduated from Madison High School and later from The Finishing School of Dress Design. She opened her first dress shop in Boston, and then owned The Clothes Horse in Danbury, Conn., for many years.
She has lived in Harpswell since 1979, coming there from Lewiston.
She sold real estate in Brunswick for Century 21 for many years.
She was a Mayflower descendant and was a member of the Mayflower Society, the Colonial Dames, and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She joined the DAR in 1967 and served as chapter member, officer, regent, Maine State Regent, Vice President General, and Chaplain General (1998-2001).
She married Joseph Francis Ramos on June 29, 1952.
She is survived by her husband of Harpswell; her son, Jeff Ramos and his wife, Vickie, of Harpswell; her daughter, Juli Ormsby of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Ray Humphreys and his wife, Gail, of Cumberland; her sister, Murial Willeford and her husband, Raymond, of Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Jessica Elaine Katherine Ormsby, Jeremy Ray Flint, Brian Colby Flint, Amanda Rollins Flint, Jenna Lynn Ramos, Jeffrey James Ramos and Joshua Curtis Ormsby.
She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Jon Ormsby.
