LEWISTON – Irene A. O’Brien, 72, of 23 Spofford St., Meadowview Apartments, Lewiston, went peacefully to be with the Lord after a nine month battle with lung cancer, with her loving family and friends beside her on Friday, Oct. 31, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Lewiston, on Sept. 25, 1936, the daughter of Michael and Alida Berube O’Brien. Educated in local schools, she worked for many years at both the Clark and Arrowheart shoe shops. A member of Holy Family Parish, she also belonged to the 20 M Club and Seniors Plus.

She had a great sense of humor, and the only thing she enjoyed more than laughing was making others laugh. She also enjoyed her trips to Old Orchard Beach for a slice of pizza on the pier, and loved going to the Balloon Festival and the Franco Festival.

Survivors include four brothers, Gerald and wife, Margaret O’Brien, of Lewiston, James and wife, Laurette O’Brien, of Farmingdale, Michael and wife, Claudette O’Brien, of Pennsylvania, and Louis and wife, Shirley O’Brien, of Auburn; two sisters, Theresa Hughes of Milton, Fla., and Katherine and husband, Steve Hornack, of New Jersey; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her longtime companion, Allan Clark in 2005; a sister, Jeannette Ellis; and her invisible dog, Fido.
