AUBURN – Hazel Alice Goding, 92, went to be with her precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Hospice House.
She was born in Greene, May 29, 1916, the daughter of Lester G. and Celestia (Alden) Austin Sr.
She survived her twin at birth and she too was also not expected to survive due to low birth weight, but was nurtured by her grandmother, miraculously surviving for God’s plan.
She was an active and charter member of South Auburn Baptist Church, now known as Riverside Drive Baptist Church, where she influenced many lives by her Christian testimony and love. She also instructed the word of God by teaching Sunday school classes there for many years. She also spent one year in Cuba with her uncle helping to provide for her siblings. In her later years, she loved attending and participating in weekly beano games. She was also an avid Boston Celtics fan.
She was a loving mother to her children who survive her; two sons, Bruce Goding and wife, Betsy, of Lakeland, Fla., and Dale Goding and wife, Rachel, of Auburn; one daughter, Mary St. Hilaire and husband, Reginald, of Auburn; her four sisters whom she loved, Frances Ouellette and Jean Campbell, both of Auburn, Marilyn Jordan of Buckfield and Marlene Smith and husband, Melvin, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Clarence, who went to be with the Lord, Oct. 21, 1990; as well as her twin brother, Lester G. Austin Jr., who died at birth.
