Lewiston – Lillian (Lily) G. Perreault, 89 years old, of Shawmut Street, passed away Saturday evening into eternal life at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center after a brief illnesss.

Born in Guerette, on Aug. 1, 1919, the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Gagnon) Hebert, she was the youngest of 13 children. She was educated in Guerrette and Madawaska schools. She married Rudolph C. Perreault on July 20, 1946.

Lily was a teacher at St. John’s Catholic School in Brunswick and St. Joseph’s Child Care in Auburn. After the death of her husband in 1964, she began by ministering to the sick and infirmed commencing by cooking for her sister’s Good Shepherd nursing homes. Eventually she dedicated herself to working for the priest and sisters within the diocese as a cook at St. Joseph’s Convent and St. Joseph’s Rectory. She was drawn by her immense generosity, love, and care for the shut-ins and infirmed and began working for Androscoggin Home Care (University of Maine cooperative extension program) as a senior companion in 1994, until her brief illness in January of 2008. She loved visiting the sick and shut-ins whether in their own homes or at various nursing homes and hospitals in the area. She volunteered her services in this regard over the course of 14 years. Lil, as they would call her, was dedicated to her clients and often visited them on weekends and holidays. She received the Governor’s Services award in April of this year, having volunteered more than 14,500 hours of service.

She will be remembered as a woman of faith, love, prayer and service with remarkable energy and compassion. She was often found at Mass everyday, hours of adoration and an abundant life of prayer. Her faith was the focal point of everything she did for others.

Lily was the mother of four children, Mrs. Charles (Rachel) Corricelli of Everett, Mass., Mrs. David (Rolande) Hempstead of Yarmouth and Betty Perreault of Lewiston; her grandchildren, Mark, Amy, Christopher, Mary and Christina; and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind two sisters, Sr. Nora and Sr. Rella Hebert of St. Joseph’s Convent in Biddeford.

She was predeceased by her husband Rudy; and a son, Mark.
