RALEIGH, N.C. – Audrey Joan Morrison, 74, formerly of Otisfield, died Saturday, Aug. 30, at Rex Medical Center, from complications due to extensive heart surgery, surrounded by her children and many family members from across the country who came to be with her in her final days.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Thomas and Mary Williams. In 1948, she moved with her mother and brother, George and sister, Dolores, to Saugus, Mass.
In 1951, she married John H. Morrison also of Saugus. In 1971, they moved to Otisfield, with their four children, opening The Outpost, a family run business on Thompson Lake.
In 1981, John Sr. passed and she later married Tauno Wuori of Wallingford, Conn., in 1984, who passed in 1989.
The store was closed for several years and was reopened by Audrey, her son, Matthew and his wife, Michele and was known for its great pizza and sandwiches.
She retired and sold the store in 2005, and joined Matthew and his family in North Carolina, enjoying the warm climate, her lovely new home and spending time with her grandchildren, Hannah and Clayton, who lived in the same neighborhood.
She was a member of the Golden Ages, a local senior group and was warmly welcomed by its many members, all of whom became so very dear to her. She enjoyed many outings with the Golden Ages, as well as gatherings for coffee at Budda Beans and lots of laughs.
She will be so very sadly missed by her children, daughter, Diane Jackson and Caldwell of Oxford; son, John Morrison Jr. and Judy of Lewiston; son, Jeffrey Morrison and Cathy of North Anson; son, Matthew Morrison and Michele of Hickory, N.C.; her brother, George Williams and wife, Pat, of San Clemente, Calif.; sister-in-law, Josephine Williams of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her loving grandchildren, Nicole and Ben, Heather and Colin, Victoria, John III, Jacob, Hannah and Clayton; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Lily and Cora; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Thomas; and sister, Dolores.
