TOGUS – Arno Arlen Bittues Jr., 74, of Winthrop, died Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Veterans Administration in Togus.
He was born on Sept. 10, 1933, the son of Arno Alden and Gladys Mabel (Worthing) Bittues. He grew up in Augusta, graduated from Cony High in 1951. After military service he returned to Augusta in 1960. In 1961 he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service in Augusta, retiring October 1988.
A staunch union man, Arno was involved in the local, state and national American Postal Workers Union, serving in many capacities until his retirement.
His retirement years were spent on Cobbossee Colony Golf Course, as well as many of Maine’s other golf courses. He enjoyed his hobby of golfing and his hobby of golf club repair and regripping, he was well-known by friends and local golfers as Nottingham Golf Services.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Angelina (Hutchings) Bittues, of Winthrop; his sons, Arno A. Bittues and his wife, Roxy, of Winthrop, Ira J. Bittues of Lewiston, Aaron A. Bittues and his wife, Wanda, of Carriere, Miss., Anthony A. Bittues and his wife, Corie, of Winthrop; his daughters, Laura J. Bradeen and her fiance, Daniel Guay, of Greene and Elizabeth Hoke of Utah; his grandchildren, Lisa M., Hilary L., Alexander A., Luke Arno-Aaron, Raistlin M., Kasey R. Bittues, Sky L. and Tad R. Danforth; his great-grandson, Oryan Bittues.
