LEWISTON – Robert P. LaChapelle, 78, of 644 Durham Rd. Brunswick, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Central Maine Medical Center with his family by his side.

Born in Lewiston on July 25, 1930, a son of the late Arthur G. and Dorothy Sullivan LaChapelle, he graduated from Edward Little High School in 1948.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and worked as a mail carrier at the Auburn Post Office for 20 years.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and wintering in Arizona.

He is survived by his companion, Ida Brockett, of Brunswick; a daughter, Helen Harper of Bullhead City, Ariz.; a son, Robert LaChapelle Jr. of Wells; his sisters, Shirley Brushwein of Fanning Spring, Fla., and Leona Peterson of Glendale, Ariz.; his brothers, Gerald LaChapelle of Lewiston, and Donald LaChapelle and his wife, Carmen, of Auburn; four grandchildren, Kris, Ronald and Amanda LaChapelle, and Michael Harper; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Jacqueline; a son, Steven; and two brothers, James and Arthur LaChapelle.
